1. How the recall system works in France
RappelConso: the official DGCCRF portal — https://rappel.conso.gouv.fr — lists all product recalls in France (food and non-food). Each notice includes the product name, brand, affected references, reason, identified risk, and recommended action. An RSS feed subscription is available by category.
Safety Gate: the European Commission system (formerly RAPEX). It lists alerts concerning dangerous non-food products throughout the EU. A recall in one member country is automatically forwarded to all the others.
Who initiates a recall? The manufacturer or distributor (voluntary recall), or following an order from a regulatory authority. The vast majority of recalls are voluntary.
2. Major recalls affecting babies in 2025–2026
Infant formula (December 2025 – February 2026): large-scale preventive recalls by Nestlé (Guigoz and Nidal) and Lactalis (Blédina and Gallia). Reason: traces of cereulide in an oil rich in arachidonic acid (ARA) sourced from a Chinese supplier. Cereulide can cause vomiting. The DGS issued DGS-Urgent bulletin no. 2026-01 on January 23, 2026. No medically established link to a death or serious illness.
What to do if you have affected batches:

- Do not consume the listed batches
- Return the product to the point of sale for a refund
- If your infant develops symptoms: contact your doctor or call 15
Baby toys and accessories — the most common reasons for children under 3:
- Presence of small detachable parts (choking hazard)
- Formaldehyde levels exceeding permitted thresholds
- Cords longer than 22 cm (strangulation hazard)
- Chemical substances exceeding REACH limits

1. Note the brand, model, and reference number (on the packaging or underneath the product)

4. Products requiring the closest monitoring
- Plastic toys imported from outside the EU: significantly higher rates of chemical non-compliance
- Infant formula and baby food: recurring food recalls
- Transport accessories (carrycots, bassinets, bath hammocks): mechanical and positioning risks
- Rattles and developmental toys with small parts: choking hazards
